Dr. Alex Alliston is a chartered mechanical engineer with more than 30 years’ experience working in innovative technology companies in business development, commercial sales, and product management roles. He works best at the interface between the engineering team and the customer. Alex shares Caldera’s vision for industrial heat decarbonization, becoming involved with the company in 2021 before joining the team in a formal role in early 2024.
Alex received his degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cambridge, going on to obtain a PhD in Tribology (the study of friction, lubrication and wear) at the same university. In his first company he became a director at the age of 25 and developed and launched more than 10 new tribology test machines. During a career break to bring up his family, Alex developed a passion for sustainable living and renewable energy, and ran several projects in his local community. He went on to have senior roles in Rolls-Royce and Alstom’s tidal energy businesses and Ecotricity’s wind turbine subsidiary, Britwind. Before joining Caldera he had a product management role in Spirax Sarco Group’s steam specialties division.
When Alex is not working, he enjoys keeping fit and helping his wife design and deliver engaging STEM projects for primary age kids. He is also an early adopter of green tech and is always looking for ways to reduce the family’s carbon footprint.
