Caldera is on a mission to make zero carbon industrial heat accessible and affordable, using Storage Boilers charged with renewable electricity. Leveraging patented technology that has captured attention from 12 sectors across 15 countries, we’re tackling one of the climate crisis’s most overlooked challenges: industrial heat.
Based in Fareham, UK, our headquarters serve as a comprehensive centre for innovation. Here, we manage everything from initial product development and prototyping to full-scale production. History
Founded
Caldera is founded by James Macnaghten and Guy Winstanley to pave the way for easy, affordable heat decarbonisation.
First of a kind
We’re the first in the world to create a heat storage material using volcanic rocks and recycled aluminium.
Patented technology
We develop proprietary, highly efficient vacuum insulation and heat extraction for a 100 kWh prototype.
100 kWh prototype
We install the first 100 kWh Storage Boiler to demonstrate the safety and reliability of our technology. It's still operational today.
Investment
We raise £1.5m through a successful crowdfunding campaign, exceeding our goal by 250%.
UK grant funding
We win £800k of UK government funding to deploy ten 100 kWh units in long-term test environments, and develop an industrial scale Storage Boiler.
Follow-on UK grant funding
We win £4.3m of UK government funding to build a 4MWh commercial demonstrator of our industrial Storage Boiler.
Commercial demonstrator
We celebrate another highly successful crowdfunding campaign, raising £1.5m. Our first industrial Storage Boiler is commissioned and achieves its targets.
Series A investment
We achieve a major milestone securing £10m Series A investment from GEA Group, one of the world’s largest systems suppliers for the F&B and pharmaceutical sectors. Our industrial Storage Boiler exceeds its targets.
